Healthcare Law Awaits Ruling from Supremes

The fate of Obamacare will be in the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court if the Justices agree to hear the case in their term that begins Monday. Texas has joined 25 other states in a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the 2010 federal healthcare law.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, citing rulings of three district court judges and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, says the federal government exceeded the constitutional limits of its authority by requiring all Americans to purchase government-approved health insurance. Abbott says plaintiffs are urging the High Court to resolve the constitutional challenge as quickly as possible.

The Obama administration has expressed confidence the act will be upheld as a valid exercise of federal power and supports the call for quick action on the question by the Court.
